I hate to rain on your anti-tax parade, but if you said "stuff I buy on the internet", you'd be wrong. As far as I know, every state that has sales tax has use tax. Which is a tax (usually tied to the sales tax rate) which is supposed to be paid on all purchases you make upon which you don't pay sales tax. In California, we're supposed to declare this tax on our state tax returns and most likely the state you live in has the same policy. This is supposed to prevent someone from say California from going to Oregon (a no sales tax state) and buying a boat and bringing it back to California without paying taxes on it.

Also, many online purchases are taxed via sales tax, if you are purchasing from a retailer with physical presence in your state.

Furthermore, the Main Street Fairness Act has been introduced in previous Congresses by Republicans, so please don't try to make this a partisan issue.

The "Fairness" part of Main Street Fairness is fairness towards businesses on Main St who have to charge sales tax and so seem like they have higher prices than online businesses who don't.
